Phil McMaster was born in Brisbane in the ‘40s. He studied architecture and worked in a number of practices there before travelling and working in Suva, Durban and Windhoek. After completing architecture studies in London he managed a practice in Lisbon.

Phil returned to Brisbane and completed studies in Landscape Architecture. He then moved to Canberra in 1974 and established the multidisciplianary firm of Phil McMaster Pty Ltd. He later established a development company and completed a number of ski lodges in Thredbo, Kosciusko National Park. In 1992 he moved his office to Byron Bay.

Phil has completed over 2000 projects. His work is organic in form and use of materials, with many projects located in areas of outstanding natural and cultural significance.
